COMMENTS:

Welllllllllll, everything started out roses ... nice relatively coolish (73o) humid morning ... forecast for only 30% chance of rain ... good day for headin' out to Houston. I left early enough sos I'd get to Houston before the sun was able to cook up any nasty afternoon storms ... right ... more about that later.

Since it was a nice day, I wasn't in a rush (had plenty of time to get through Houston before evening rush traffic), I decided to blindly (well sorta) follow Zumo's lead and see where he would lead me. Hmmmmm I'll have to think about this 'He' thing since it's soooooo finicky at times.

Indeed getting into Texas was a no brainer just straight ahead on LA 6. After we crossed the Toledo Bend Reservoir (part of the Sabine River) Zumo took over and wound me very successfully through the country side. So far so good.

THEN ... I began to understand what the weather forecaster meant by 30% chance of rain. They meant that there was a 30% chance of a monsoon that would drop 8" of rain per second but a 100% chance that it would sprinkle to the tune of 6" per second and just as I got to Houston and all the crazy traffic. I suspect Houston is like DC, there is this eternal mass of people just driving around going no where just clogging up the roads.

Oh yea, I survive what I figure was Holy Armageddon only to face this friggin' toll road that I wish I had had the camera out to take a shot of the toll signs. Anybody out there ever been on this Rt 8 bypass around Houston? These signs kept saying something about having at least $1.75 in change or some such $%#^&^%. I thought it meant that if I didn't have the correct change that I better come up with a bill so I would get back at least $1.75 or else they would keep the change. So I pulls up and this nice lady looks at me like I just beamed in from Krypton. Like, haven't you ever seen a motorcycle towing a trailer? How about have you ever seen a motorcycle? So she starts counting axles to determine my toll. So to really twist her up I tell her that actually the trailer has two independent axles so I should be charged as an 18 wheeler and just throw in super wide load for grins.

The good news is, other than I'm still alive and have taken a part time job to pay the toll (sorry Paul and Melanie), Mr. Zumo lead me directly to Cyndi and Rick Shantz's door. Cyndi is the sister of Dave as in Big Wave Dave as in son-in-law Dave as in married to Kim Dave vice married to Theresa Dave. Oh yea, Rick is married to Cyndi as in ..... you get the idea!

After 4 quarts of Margaritas erased my memory like that flashy thing in Men in Black I was a new man ... ready to ride on Friday for San Antonio.
